Healthcare Advocate Position:

Medical Cost Advocate (MCA) is a rapidly growing healthcare advocacy firm that helps clients navigate the healthcare system and realize more value. MCA’s services include Health Care Advocacy programs where we assist clients in resolving insurance, billing and claims issues. MCA is seeking an experienced Health Care Advocate to manage client insurance, billing and claims challenges and advise on reducing the cost and complexity of healthcare.

Position Description:

Medical Cost Advocate’s Health Care Advocates are advisors who combine experience in health insurance, medical billing and business with a passion for strong customer service. The Advocate’s goal is to simplify healthcare, saving time and money for our clients. Successful candidates will leverage their experience with workflow tools and resources to efficiently resolve billing, claims and insurance issues through phone and email contact. You will work with employees, providers and insurance carriers in a constructive and knowledgeable manner to help our clients navigate healthcare and save money. This is an ideal position for former insurance broker account managers, health insurance claims representatives or medical practice billers with strong working knowledge of health insurance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing guidance for clients and employees to navigate the confusing healthcare system
  • Reviewing options and helping clients select individual health insurance plans
  • Reviewing and analyzing bills and EOBs for errors and assisting in resolution
  • Negotiating bills with healthcare providers using our proprietary negotiation methodology
  • Researching and resolving coverage and billing issues with insurance carriers and providers
  • Filing claims for clients and tracking billing activity in software
  • Assisting with and advising on appeals with insurance carriers
  • Researching in-network providers, comparing pricing and recommending options
  • Following-up with providers and clients to resolve issues
  • Managing multiple cases concurrently using our case management system
  • Providing proactive client service, including updating clients on progress and outcomes


  • Knowledge of and experience with health insurance claims, benefits, coverage and/or medical billing using phone and email contact
  • Good candidates will have work experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Direct health care advocacy, Client service/claims management with health insurance brokerage, claims specialists for insurance companies, medical practice/billing managers and utilization review/case management.
  • Comfortable working with employees and professionals including physicians and insurance company representatives; professionalism and passion for strong client service
  • Organized, analytical, creative problem solving
  • Negotiation Acumen - Ability to effectively negotiate with health providers to reduce medical bills
  • Preferred - Producer health license, Medical billing/coding certification or Medicare certification
  • Capability with online applications, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Education/Experience: Degree preferred and 7+ years directly related work experience
  • Commutable to Wyckoff, New Jersey corporate office (30 minutes from Midtown NYC)
